underrated recovery hacks to change the beliefs that are holding you back

back from the borderline - Een podcast door mollie adler

The majority of people I speak to who are struggling with their "mental health symptoms" tell me how badly they want to change. They know their "toxic" patterns. They know the cycles they continue to repeat that continue to sabotage their change at peace and intimacy. They KNOW. But here's the thing: it's really f*cking hard to change your behavior. Let me tell you the biggest lesson I've learned in my journey so far: changing your beliefs = changing your behaviors. In today's episode, we'll challenge a lot of the deeply held beliefs that might be holding you back. I’ll discuss why my current social media break might become a permanent decision, how major social networks are transitioning from “social media” to “recommendation media,” and how this can affect our emotional regulation. I’ll also address a recent (somewhat critical) review on the podcast from someone who finds empowerment in the BPD label. This review inspired me to expand upon why I will continue to be outspoken regarding the (potentially) harmful and damaging impact of BPD diagnoses and how our cognitive biases can get in the way of our recovery process. Questions answered in this episode: ■ BPD and social media (does it worsen symptoms?) ■ Are mental health labels like “borderline personality disorder” helpful or unhelpful?■ Splitting in BPD, cognitive biases, and attachment to the BPD label■ Communication issues and BPD traits (how developing a “growth mindset” can be a game-changer in your recovery journey) ■ The connection between BPD traits and “obsessive” behaviors (i.e., constantly checking a partner’s social media)■ Tips for romantic relationships involving people with BPD traits and how to “start fresh.” Recommended resources:  ■ Article – “The End of Social Media and the Rise of Recommendation Media” by Michael Mignano■ Article – The people who want to get rid of the term ‘personality disorder’ by Emily Reynolds for Dazed Digital■ Book – Designing the Mind: The Principles of Psychitecture by Ryan Bush Enjoyed this episode?
