The protests have become a stage on which broader cultural conflicts have played out, alternatively described as a worker struggle and a cite of right-wing bigotry. Because it is financed by large donors -- many of whom are American -- some to be skeptical that the protestors represent the interests of the majority of truckers, or that they reflect working class interests at all. But Prime Minister Trudeau's recent invocation of emergency powers to quash the protests have raised objections among those concerned with the civil libertarian implications, even if they would object to the substance of the protests. This week, Briahna speaks to Green Party 2016 Vice Presidential candidate, activist, and National Spokesperson for Black Alliance for Peace Ajamu Baraka; Canadian journalist and co-host of Michael & Us Luke Savage, & Canadian freelance writer and cohost of Unredacted with Glenn Greenwald Q. Anthony Omene about how the left should approach these protests. Should the left be trying to use this uprising as an opportunity for left radicalization? Are mandates with little public health benefit worth the political backlash? Is the left ultimately envious that it rarely mobilizes as effectively as these Canadian protestors have done? Is this what the George Floyd uprising should have been? Brie asks these questions, and more. Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube to access our full video library.
