A humble perspective

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - Een podcast door Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 6:3 And this we will do, if God permits. The following Scriptures illustrate the same humility that we see in the author of Hebrews revealed in the statement, “If God permits.” Prov. 16:9. The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps. 1 Corinthians 4:19 But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I shall find out, not the words of those who are arrogant but their power. James 4:15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”  I want to encourage you today that God’s will is going to be done in your life. The Lord does what He pleases, and it is He who sets the course of our lives. In fact, in Hebrews 12:1, the author said as much when he wrote, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” The author was practicing good sense. He believes there’s only one God from whom are all things. If something happens, it’s because God wills or permits it. This is an attitude of humility. We are not God. We are, as Isaiah wrote in chapter 40, “like grasshoppers” or “like the grass that withers and fades away.” We can’t control the next minute of our lives. We have dreams, plans, and agendas, but they only materialize or take place if the Lord permits.  What the author intended to do was good. He intended to encourage his readers on to maturity. However, regardless of how good a certain course of action may appear to be to us, we must be careful not to think it must happen for us to be happy or content in Christ. When we say we are satisfied with Jesus, we mean we are satisfied with His will in our lives. It entails an attitude of surrender that is rooted in humility. Our will and our plans are not the source of our happiness. The earth is the Lord’s and all it contains. We are here for Him. Today, I intend to live to love with Jesus. I have my plans, but I am at His mercy. I trust He will guide my steps and then give me the grace necessary to walk with Him in love. I hope your plans today are the same. However, let’s hold our plans lightly, but our faith in Christ firmly. Let’s adopt this attitude of humility that we see in the author of Hebrews as we press on to maturity. “And this we will do, if God permits.” This is indeed a humble perspective.
