Absorb God’s love like a sponge

Hebrews 6:8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. Well, we certainly don’t want to be the kind of ground that yields thorns and thistles, do we? He was referring to those who had heard the good word of God yet did not bear fruit for God. Such ground, or such a soul, is useless to the owner. Notice, the idea is that the ground drank in the rain that God caused to often fall on it. But instead of yielding anything that would be of benefit to the owner, it yields thorns and thistles. Worthless, cursed, and burned.  This negative example should motivate us to examine closely what we do with the blessings of God. For instance, we don’t want to use the word of God to stick and prick people. We don’t want to use it like a weapon against others. I’m sure that’s not in our hearts. Our joy is to receive God’s blessings and pass them on to others for their benefit and God’s glory. We want to be vessels in God’s hands to water the ground or souls of others so they can glorify God by bearing fruit. I hope we’ll enter into God’s presence today with thanksgiving for the rain He pours out in our lives. I pray that we’ll drink until we are satiated with His love. May we be like sponges that are so saturated that when we are touched by others, nothing but the love of Jesus comes out. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?!
