Romans 5:15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. How grateful we can be today for the free gift of righteousness through Jesus Christ! That’s the gift Paul had in mind. Previously he had written that in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith (1:17). Adam and Christ were similar and types of one another in that they each performed one deed that was put to the account of all of their offspring. But what resulted from their deeds is entirely dissimilar. As a result of Adam’s one transgression the entire human race died. Mankind was not bettered, but was impoverished by Adam’s sin. It ruined us! However, in stark contrast with the ruination of Adam’s one deed is the over abundant gift resulting from Jesus’ one deed. Paul wrote that God’s grace and the gift of righteousness that was accounted to the many who believe in Him, “abounded much more,” made Jesus’ offspring unmeasurably better. Adam’s deed stole life from us. Jesus’ deed—His substitutionary death on the cross in obedience to His Father—gave us right standing before the Father and eternal life. Are you living in the abundance of grace and enjoying the life you have because of the righteousness of Jesus Christ in which you stand forever dressed and covered? Do you rejoice that your brothers and sisters in Christ also share the grace space with you? Living to love is the evidence that we have experienced and enjoy the abundance of grace in which we stand through the gift of righteousness given to us by Jesus Christ. Abundant grace begets an abundance of love. I encourage you to live in Jesus’ fullness today for God’s glory.
