Are you living in God’s Sabbath rest?

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - Een podcast door Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 4:8-9 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. It was Joshua who led the second generation of Israelites into the Promised Land, but the Spirit spoke through David about God’s rest afterwards. The author therefore concludes that God has another Sabbath rest for His people that is available “today.” He’s going to explain what he means by this Sabbath rest in the following verses, so I will resist the urge to do it now. The term Sabbath rest is actually one word in the Greek. Usually it is understood to be a time when one rests from his or her laboring to earn money. However, we are going to see that’s not the rest that the Spirit has in mind. There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God that is not a rest to be taken every seven days nor is it a reference primarily to heaven and the new world to come. The encouragement today is that there is a resting place available to us today. What does it have to do with living to love with Jesus? As we abide in Jesus, our lives are expressions of His faith and love. Our believing and loving doesn’t come from our strength and efforts. The rest we experience comes from the reality of our reliance upon what Jesus has done for us in His work on the cross and what He does for us on a daily, moment-by-moment basis. Are you living in God’s Sabbath rest? If so, there should be a peace, joy, and freedom in your heart because you are aware of Jesus’ presence and power working in your life.
