Hebrews 2:3. How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, Look how good God is to provide confirmation of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ! This great escape from sin’s penalty was first spoken through the Lord. One of the first occasions was at His birth. In Luke 2:10-11, the Lord spoke through an angel of this great salvation. “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” And Jesus spoke of this great salvation when Martha came to Him about her brother’s death. John 11:25. "Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.’” The author informed his readers that he and his companions received confirmation of this wonderful salvation by what they heard from those who were eye witnesses and recipients of the Lord’s word. Our encouragement today comes from the fact that once someone hears the word of the Lord, they become a partaker in the advancement of the message of salvation. God sent people to you who, by their lives, confirmed to you that all that has been spoken by God about Jesus is true. You heard them. You watched them. You were convinced by them that Jesus lives and therefore saves people from their sins. God provided an escape hatch from the penalty of sins—that is Jesus’ life and death—and they took it. They live to tell about it, and as we’ll see in tomorrow’s verse, they live to show it. As believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are God’s testimonies to the world that Jesus Christ is the radiance of God’s glory, the exact representation of God’s nature, the savior of the world, and the Lord of heaven and earth. That’s why we live to love with Jesus. We live to confirm the word of the Lord about Him by expressing the radiance of His glory, which is love. We live, according to the grace given us, to represent Him. We confirm to others that God’s word is true—Jesus is God, Lord, and savior of the world. Now let’s bring it home. Who needs to have the word of God confirmed to them? Your spouse, children, parents, friends, neighbors, and work associates, just to name a few, need encouragement that God’s word is true. God is providing that confirmation to them through you everyday. Consider how meaningful your life is! Be amazed at God’s administration of His kingdom! You are an out flashing of His glory, confirming the word of the Lord.
