God’s love, our greatest satisfaction in life

1 John 4:16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. After declaring the good news of the gospel that God sent His Son to be the Savior of the world, John continued explaining the work of the Holy Spirit which He had just declared as the proof that one abides in God and He abides in Him. There are two evidences that the Holy Spirit, the presence of Christ, dwells in you. 1 John 4:15 focused on the first evidence, faith. This verse focused on the second evidence that one has the Holy Spirit, the love of God. The person who believes that Jesus is God’s Son sent to be the Savior of the world also knows and believes God loves them. John wrote earlier in 3:16. “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us.” So we believe the love God has for us, and we abide in His love. I think that means that His love becomes the greatest source of satisfaction to our souls. He becomes our sole source of contentment, significance, joy, satisfaction, and love in this world. We are encouraged today by this verse that if Jesus’ love is enough for us in this world, then we are abiding in God and He is abiding in us. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. It is the proof that the Holy Spirit dwells in us, and He is God in us. As we will see in the next verse, the proof that we are abiding in God’s love is that His love makes its way through us to others. May we abide in His love today and always, finding in Him our greatest satisfaction in life.
