Jesus bears our weaknesses

Romans 15:3 For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.” This is an amazing verse. First, let’s notice that Paul, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, believed Ps. 69, written by David, referred to Jesus. Second, let’s notice what we learn about Jesus, the life of God who dwells in us who believe in Him. He did not please Himself when He walked on this earth, and He still doesn’t as He walks with us. Three, Jesus, who is the strong One, bore our weaknesses. Reproach has to do with shaming or despising. As He died on the cross, which certainly wasn’t for His temporal good or pleasure, He bore the shame of the very ones who were shaming Him! There may come a time when you are in a situation where you receive some shaming for not doing something almost everyone is doing. You know if you do it, it will stumble a brother or sister. In that instance, you will have to not please yourself (which would be having the acceptance of the group), carry their shame, and love your brother by pleasing him. You are doing him good and building up your brother. By the way, that’s what edification means in the previous verse. That’s living to love with Jesus. He did not please Himself, and we will not please ourselves. He bore our weaknesses, and we bear the weaknesses of others. All for the good of others and the glory of God.
