Hebrews 10:10-12 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God. The author’s focus in these verses is the contrast between the ministry of the priests under the Law, the old covenant, and the ministry of Jesus, our high priest, in establishing the new covenant. The single, once for all, sacrifice of Jesus wasn’t like the sacrifices repeatedly offered by the priests in the temple. But more importantly, the sacrifice of Jesus actually took away sins, whereas all those sacrifices made in the temple never took away sins. Also notice that the priest stood daily, continually working because the sacrifices weren’t able to satisfy God’s justice. After offering Himself, once for all time, Jesus sat down on the seat of authority in the heavenlies at the right hand of God. The apostle Peter echoed this glorious exaltation of Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him (1 Peter 3:22). If Jesus has sat down, then His work as a priest is finished and complete. Nothing more could be added to it. Let’s make an application of this truth to our lives. Consider Jesus offered one sacrifice, His body, for sins for all time. Now consider all of your sins committed in your entire life taken away. That’s right; they don’t exist. They are gone. They have vanished. What else does Jesus have to do to present you before His Father, blameless, spotless, and holy forever? You’re right again. Nothing! What is your response to having freely received such a generous gift of righteousness? It means you can go to Him for help at any time because His sacrifice sanctified you for all time. Do you need grace to love your husband well? Do you need grace to love your wife like Christ loved the church? Do you need grace to love and honor your parents? It’s at your fingertips. It’s as close as a prayer. The veil to the Holy of Holies has been torn in two, and you can transition from earth to heaven in a heartbeat. You have been raised up and seated with Christ in God, wrote Paul to the Colossians. Your life is hidden there in Christ. My encouragement today from these verses is that because Jesus has offered Himself for sins for all time, you can go to Him for help at any time for the rest of your time on earth. When we fix our eyes on Jesus as our source of life, we can experience and express His love freely and powerfully. Live to love with Him, seated at the right hand of God.
