John 2:4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” Jesus’ answer to His mother first strikes me as disrespectful, but we know it wasn’t. You’ll notice He didn’t ask, “What does that have to do with Me?” Perhaps it was another way of saying, “Their problem isn’t our problem.” Then He brought up a timing issue. “My hour has not yet come.” So what encouragement may we draw from Jesus’ response to His mother? As I noted yesterday, Jesus’ agenda and time table was 100% the same as His Father’s. So, let’s see if we can process this as He would, by reviewing the three foundational worldview truths of Jesus. There is only one God, My Father, from whom are all things, and He is love. My Father’s love is enough. He satisfies the deepest needs of my soul. My Father’s purpose in all things is to reveal His life in me for His glory. We learn from John’s gospel that Jesus abides in His Father’s love and will. John 15:10. “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” Psalm. 40:7 informs us regarding Jesus. “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of Me) to do your will, O God.’” So we know in this instance at the wedding in Cana, Jesus’ was indicating to Mary that His life wasn’t dictated by the tyranny of the urgent or the glory of men. The only One who mattered in His life was ultimately, His Father. Yes, He knew the Father had control of the wine situation, but He was waiting on His Father for His response. That’s what living to love with His Father looked like. This is the encouragement we can draw from this verse. If we are living to love with Jesus, we too must learn to wait on the Lord before we react or respond to every circumstance and person. We glorify Him as we find our satisfaction in Him and His will above all things. Then, when He reveals Himself through u,s we display His fruit, by which the Father is glorified and pleased. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry?
