The eternal inheritance secured

Hebrews 9:15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For this reason, what reason? Because Jesus “through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God,” He is the mediator of a new covenant. We learn in this verse why this new covenant was instituted—so that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For the eternal inheritance to be secured, the transgressions against the first covenant had to be paid for by death. The wages of sin is death, according to Rom. 6:23. Everyone under the first covenant could only fulfill the requirements of the Law by dying. Thus, they could never receive an eternal inheritance. Praise and give thanks to our merciful God. He sent His Son to earth with the command to offer Himself as a blood sacrifice to pay for all of those transgressions, once for all, for all time. Then He raised Him from the dead, declaring His sacrifice acceptable payment, raised Him up, and seated Him at His right hand. Having glorified His Son, then, in love, God sent or sends the Holy Spirit into the hearts of those He chose in Christ. The Holy Spirit is a down payment and a seal of the eternal inheritance which they have received. Let’s see these incredible encouragements in other passages. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5). In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation — having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14). “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:38-39). If you have a never-ending flow of living water, the love of Christ, springing up within you, then you have been called and will receive the eternal inheritance. You live under the blessing of the new covenant. Jesus mediates that covenant so you may live with confidence and be not only a receptacle of His love but a channel of His love. Our living to love with Jesus is grounded in the presence of Jesus Christ abiding in us, which could only happen for the reason unpacked in these verses of Hebrews 9. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and praise and glory be to Jesus, our redeemer, savior, friend, and intercessor.
