The love of God overcomes the love of the world.

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - Een podcast door Norm Wakefield

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. Today we see why glorifying God by living to love with Jesus is our purpose in this world. John had just told them that the world has nothing to offer them because the love of the Father dwells in them. The world targets the desires of the flesh and the eyes. The desires of the flesh and eyes are overcome by the deeper and more powerful desire in the person whose deepest desire is to do God’s will and glorify Him by being most satisfied in Jesus. One who has experienced the love of the Father, has experienced that deep and wonderful satisfaction. The glory, acceptance, and significance from men, and things of this world also greatly appeal to the man who hasn’t found life in Christ. Jesus addressed this when He said to the Jews in John 12:25. “He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.” Surely Jesus meant he who “loves his life in this world” loses it because He contrasted it with hating his life in this world. Only someone who has found that Jesus is life would hate his life in this world. He has found that Jesus is eternal life and satisfies his desires for glory, acceptance, significance, and amassing wealth in this world by filling him with His glory, acceptance, significance, and the hope of his future inheritance of the earth. The love of the world with its lies of satisfaction and its boast of accomplishment and significance have no appeal to the man or woman who has experienced the love of the Father and the indwelling presence of Jesus Christ. The love of the world cannot abide in the one who abides in the love of God and in whom the love of God abides. As we live to love with Jesus today, live out of Him who is the fullness of God’s love. Go into your day filled with the Spirit and the love of the Father. Expect Him to satisfy you and love through you for the glory of God. In so doing, you’ll overcome the world and its empty appeals and promises.
