Trust in God’s faithfulness to Abraham

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - Een podcast door Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 6:13-14 For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and I will surely multiply you.” What an example Abraham has been to God’s people for around 3500 years! The focus isn’t on Abraham; it’s on the God of Abraham, who is our God, Jesus Christ. Consider God’s great love for Abraham, to whom He promised blessing upon the authority of His own character and name. The author intends for His readers to understand that the God of Abraham is our God. God promised to bless him and provide him not only with an heir but multiplied offspring. As we know, God is still fulfilling His promise to Abraham, even through us. All the believers in Jesus Christ throughout all of history are his inheritance. God swore on the authority of Himself to bless Abraham.  Here’s the encouragement to us today. God is bound by His promise to Abraham to give you and me grace and mercy when we draw near to Him through Christ. We are Abraham’s inheritance, and He must bless us to keep His oath to Abraham. Since He swore upon His own name, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our high priest to bring all of the multiplication of Abraham’s seed to glory. He made Jesus the heir and high priest. He exalted Him to His own right hand. He gave Him an excellent name—a name that is better than the angels. His name is the greatest name on earth in history. At His name, every knee will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father. This isn’t news to most of us, but have we realized what God is telling us? Have we fixed all our hope on the character and oath of God, Himself?  What does it look like to trust in the God of Abraham like He did? We draw near to Him in time of need, as the author encouraged his readers in 4:14-16, and hold fast to the promises of God in Christ Jesus, His Son, the appointed heir, high priest, who made purification of sins and has sat down at the right hand of the majesty, where we have 24/7/365 access to everything we need as we run the course of life set before us. Today, we live to love with Jesus by abiding in His presence in heaven while we walk on the earth. We have confidence that God will be faithful to us because His word and faithfulness to Abraham were sworn to by an oath, and we were in view when God swore to bless Abraham. Let that sink in! Then diligently live to love with Jesus to show your love for His name—His faithfulness to keep His word through Jesus Christ.
