Why would God be concerned for you?

Hebrews 2:6 But one has testified somewhere, saying, “What is man, that You remember him? Or the son of man, that You are concerned about him?” The Holy Spirit brought to the mind of the author of this book, what seemed like a rebuttal to the declarations about Jesus and the coming world. To get the full meaning of the author’s intent, I think we need to remember the reason for the question asked by David in Psalms 8:4-6. Psalms 8:1 begins with, “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have (notice the plural verb form implying the Trinity) displayed Your splendor above the heavens! And in verse 3, “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; what is man, that You remember him? Or the son of man, that You are concerned about him?” Do you get it? We can follow the reasoning. In light of the greatness and grandeur of Your creation, O Lord, why would you be concerned about mankind? Why would you even remember him or be concerned for him? The answer is that Jesus, the Lord and maker of it all, is to become a man in this present world. We learn in vs. 9 that the author applied these words to Jesus. He’s the man that God remembers and is concerned about. The encouragement I take from this is that God hasn’t changed. He still remembers Jesus, the man. He’s still concerned about His Son, whose favorite title for Himself was, the son of man. If we are living to love with Jesus, then we are swept into God’s concern for His Son. We are becoming what man was intended to be as we live to love with Him. We are Jesus’ inheritance. We are His companions and friends. We are His body. We are the apple of His eye. God remembered His Son in this world and gave Him to us and us to Him. What an amazing salvation! What glorious love He has for His Son. His love is being poured out on mankind through us, His body in this world. That was the plan from the beginning, and He is still working out His plan through us as we work out our salvation by obeying His new commandment to love one another as He has loved us. The apostle Paul said as much in Philippians 2:12-13. “So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” Who are you that God would remember you or be concerned for you? United with the Son of Man, you are Him here in this world as His witnesses of a great salvation and the hope of the world to come. So live it up, and love it up!
