Would you live your life differently if we could count down the years and days until we depart life in much the same way as you can count the years and days from when your life began? Are you currently having disputes with loved ones, family or friends? Perhaps you feel you have been wronged, but do you react to that with the same virtue and character you would without any anger or resentment for what another has done to you? We will not be alive forever and is it not important to make the most of the time that we have and to know that when we do depart we have done all we could to display ourselves as just and with virtue be it for our own souls peace or to lead by example to those who may have wronged you? The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius offer a remarkable series of spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the emperor struggled to understand himself and make sense of the universe. While the Meditations were composed to provide personal consolation and encouragement, Marcus Aurelius also created one of the greatest of all works of philosophy: a timeless collection that has been consulted and admired by statesmen, thinkers and readers throughout the centuries. Whilst many of his reflections and ways to live life were based on the teachings of earlier philosophers from the Socratics to the early Stoics, Marcus Aurelius strove to live his life by the principles of his philosophy and in his Meditations articulated those views in a way that remains one of the greatest books of wisdom to have graced the Earth.
