UK's top court rules legal definition of a woman is based on 'biological sex'

The United Kingdom's highest court has ruled that the definition of a woman — under equality legislation — is based on "biological sex", meaning trans women are not legally women under the legislation. Five judges unanimously agreed that transgender women, even with a gender recognition certificate, should not be treated as women under the Equality Act. But the court says the judgement does not represent a triumph of any one group, and trans people will be protected from discrimination.
