US axes legal protections for thousands of Afghans

The US Department of Homeland Security says it is terminating legal protections for thousands of Afghans who have been living in the United States for years, setting them up for potential deportation in about two months.  The announcement came on the same day as the Trump administration brought a small number of white South Africans to the United States as refugees.
