This episode includes additional chapters that cover the events of Friday morning: Matthew 26-27, Mark 14-15, Luke 23, and John 19. 01:33 – Jesus is arrested and taken before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem. 08:47 – Jesus identifies himself as the Son of Man. The Sanhedrin want Pilate to condemn Jesus to death because his claim as the Messiah is a threat to Rome’s authority. 17:24 – The Jewish accusers won’t go into the praetorium or governor’s palace, for fear of being defiled according to their purity laws. 21:45 – Pilate finds no fault in Jesus, but he wants to please the crowd that has gathered to accuse and condemn him. Pilate has the authority to release Jesus, but instead makes four escalating compromises which lead to his crucifixion. 30:17 – Pilate offers to release one prisoner during the Passover. The people vote to release Barabbas the robber instead of Jesus. The Day of Atonement scapegoat ritual can be seen in John’s portrayal of Jesus’ trial. 37:08 – Pilate washes his hands of the crowd’s request to execute Jesus. 40:28 – Jesus is mocked, smitten, spit upon, and scourged. → Apple Podcasts → Google Podcasts → Spotify → Amazon Music → Stitcher → Facebook → YouTube
