Continuing the schedule of the day... Following the man who leads the goat out to the wilderness. He is accompanied along his way, with stops (10) along the way. And they offer food and water along the way, never mind that it's Yom Kippur. At the last booth, however, he stands alone, without the crowd. He then pushes the goat off the cliff, described in truly gory detail. He is observed, as a check on this procedure, both otherwise this is a solitary affair. The man who accompanies the goat and kills it waits in the last booth until the end of the day. Which leads into the question of when his garments are rendered impure. Also, finally, some philosophical underpinnings: the name Azazel, and what we infer from it. Including an unexpected universal bent, as well as a recognition of this goat and its treatment as one of the "chukim," one of the mitzvot for which we do not have a reason. Plus, the next mishnah on what is happening back in the Beit HaMikdash at this time.
