Hunt, Gather, Parent: Ancient Parenting Wisdom w/ Dr. Michaleen Doucleff, Episode #56

The Child Psych Podcast - Een podcast door Institute of Child Psychology - Woensdagen

Today's podcast is a recording from our 2023 Children's Mental Health and Parenting Summit. In this interview, Dr Doucleff, author of " Hunt, Gather, Parent," talks about her experience of setting off with her three-year-old daughter in tow to learn and practice parenting strategies from families in three of the world’s most traditional communities: Maya families, Inuit families, and Hadzabe families. She finds a very different parenting culture within these communities. Parents talk less, children are more independent, and the parent-child relationship is built on cooperation instead of control. These families are also family-centered instead of child-centered. In this interview, Doucleff explores the differences and how we can apply them to modern-day parenting.  If you want to find out more about about Dr. Doucleff’s work: https://michaeleendoucleff.com/about-michaeleen-doucleff/  Want to hear more from our amazing summit?
