"I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead." (Philippians 3:10-11)The apostle Paul wrote these words from prison, a situation Jesus Himself endured. But instead of complaining about how he had been falsely accused and deserved to be set free, Paul sees the opportunity to imitate Jesus. Jesus emptied himself when he faced oppression and Paul did too. He leaned into humility. He followed the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:24-25: "If anyone wants to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." Following Jesus will humble you. It won't go the way you want it to and it will cost you something. But in the end, you will gain everything. He's where the joy is!
