The lower Hudson River passes by the window as they talk. “Well, here we are again,” says Roger. “Yes,” says the woman.“Recommend anything?” asks Roger, gesturing at the menu. “The Brook trout,” says the woman. “It’s a little trouty, but quite good.”“Sold,” says Roger, writing it down on the order form. “Brook… Trout…” The waiter brings his Gibson. “There you are, thank you,” says Roger to the waiter, as he hands the man his dinner order.“Yes sir,” says the waiter.Roger looks around nervously, and then looks at the woman again. “I know,” he says, “I look vaguely familiar.”“Yes,” says the woman.“You feel you’ve seen me somewhere before,” says Roger.“Mm-hmm,” says the woman, nodding.“Funny how I have that effect on people,” says Roger. “It’s something about my face.”“It’s a nice face,” says the woman, smiling.“You think so?” asks Roger.“I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t,” replies the woman.“Oh, you’re that type,” says Roger.“What type?” asks the woman.Roger takes off his sunglasses. “Honest,” he says.“Not really,” says the woman.“Good,” says Roger, “because honest women frighten me.”“Why?” asks the woman.
