Singapore’s central bank tightened its Singapore dollar policy for the second time in 3 months, to counter rising inflation. In an unexpected announcement on Tuesday (Jan 25), the Monetary Authority of Singapore raised slightly the "slope" or rate of appreciation of its Singdollar policy band. The width of the policy band and the level at which it is centred remain unchanged. UOB economic Barnabas Gan offers his insights on the surprise move and inflation forecast for 2022.
